About the Team

There are a lot of activities that happen in our stores so we have a strong cross-functional team focused on doing Anything for Pets by supporting the store teams through effective communications, processes and initiatives. The Store Strategy & Operations department leads the way to support all store activities and define business-driving strategies. The Workforce, Insights & Planning team owns labor optimization and reporting needs. The Operations & Innovation team owns merchandise execution, process improvement, compliance, store technology and innovation. And the Strategy team leads all the business-driving efforts for Salon, PetsHotel, Pet Training and In-store customer experience. These teams work diligently to ensure our associates, pets and pet parents are supported, while operating efficiently to drive the business.


About the Location

This role is based at PetSmart’s Phoenix Home Office, where associates currently enjoy the benefits of in-person collaboration while having the flexibility to work remotely one day per week (a “flex workday” with leader approval), and an expected four days in the office. About the Job

SUMMARY 

Pet Training is a critical portion of PetSmart’s business as we help to transform pet’s lives. Our training teaches positive reinforcement to improve dog behavior while also deepening the bond between dog and pet parent! The Pet Training Initiatives Specialist is responsible for growing revenue and optimizing costs within the Services Pet Training business.  Responsibilities include managing key initiatives focused on creating disproportionate sales growth. This individual will be responsible for partnering with key cross-functional partners to plan & create pet training projects with excellence.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as subject matter expert for pet training. Responsible to manage key initiatives focused on creating disproportionate sales growth.
  • Innovation, helping to identify whitespace within the services marketplace. Must have a keen eye on the trends and bringing forth opportunities to win.
  • Lead optimization of existing projects and actively pursue opportunities to adjust results & create long-term road maps for each project.
  • Key Partner to Services Ops Project Management to maximize initiative’s success in the field - helping to support the creation of training, dashboards and more.
  • Size new programs and initiatives in collaboration with Services Analytics team.
  • Partner with key cross-functional partners to gather inputs to ensure successful results of key projects (Services Analytics, Ops, L&D, Field,Marketing, etc.)
  • Helps monitor and optimize promotions.
  • Monitor data and performance trends to identify and consistently improve business opportunities.
  • Conducts quarterly competitive reviews to help understand the marketplace and opportunities within the business.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in retail, business, or related field experience
  • 2-3 years’ experience in business strategy, project management, or marketing strongly preferred

 

SKILLS 

  • Executive presence and ability to influence up and across (including with Field Leadership & Service Leadership)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Business acumen, strategic thinker, inquisitive and apt for process improvement
  • Highly collaborative across departments and field functions
  • Passion and ability to interpret data which translates into actionable insights
  • Must be able to devise creative solutions, produce measurable results, and clearly understand risks and contingency planning.
  • Must be detail oriented & skilled in project management.
