PetSmart is consistently investing in technology, equipment, and facilities upgrades, and process optimization improvements that are meant to make the role of the front-line associate easier. In other words, you play a critical role in improving the associate experience by providing feedback on what works and what doesn't. This also means that if something in your day-to-day experience isn't working well and you find you do not have the tools and resources needed to perform at your best, you can use the open door, talk to your leader, or any leader, and we will look into your questions or concerns.

Our commitment to do anything for the pets in our care comes to life in numerous ways, including:

application and selection process

What should I highlight on my resume, and is there a preferred length?

Show off your skills! Highlight how you’ve made an impact and tailored your experience to the role you're chasing. A 1–2-page resume works best—think of it as giving just the right amount of treats, not too many, not too few. But if you’ve got more experience to share, feel free to extend a little!

What if I don’t have a resume, and what format works best?

No resume? No problem! For store and distribution center roles, you can simply fill in your work history. If you do have a resume, PDF or Word works—PDF is paws-itively the best way to keep things looking sharp!

Should I include a cover letter, and how do I know my resume was received?

Cover letters are like extra belly rubs—optional but always appreciated! It's a great way to explain why this role is the perfect fit. Once you submit your resume, we’ll send a quick confirmation email to let you know we’ve got it in our paws.

What info is needed for the application, and how long does it take?

We’ll need your work history, education, and contact details. Some roles may also ask specific questions to see if you're the perfect fit. The application should only take about 10-15 minutes, but if you’re applying for a store or distribution center role, there’s an additional assessment that could take 10-20 minutes.

Can I apply for more than one position, and are there any assessments?

Absolutely—feel free to apply for as many positions as catch your eye! Just make sure you're a match for the role. Many store and distribution center positions include a quick assessment to help match your work style to the role. We want to ensure it’s a paw-some fit for both sides!

Can I update my application after submitting?

You can log in and update some parts of your application or profile, but a few fields are locked after submission. If you need to add more info, you can always reach out to the location directly.

Will I hear back if I’m not selected?

We do our best to keep you in the loop! For many roles, you'll be notified by email whether you’re moving forward or if we’ve chosen another candidate. However, for evergreen postings at our stores or distribution centers, communication may vary depending on hiring needs at the time. Rest assured, we’ll keep you informed when possible!

What does the interview process involve, and how long do interviews last?

The process typically starts with a 15-30 minute chat to share more about the role and learn about your background. As you move forward, you’ll have more in-depth conversations with team members (usually 30-90 minutes), giving us a chance to see how you’d fit from both a functional and cultural standpoint. It’s also your time to ask all your burning questions—after all, we want to be a purrfect match!

What if I need to reschedule an interview?

Life happens! If you need to reschedule, just contact your Recruiter or designated contact, and we’ll work together to find a better time that fits everyone’s schedule.

What should I expect during the interview, and how can I prepare?

Expect conversations about your experience, skills, and how you solve problems. We’ll also explore how your values and work style align with PetSmart’s culture. To prepare, brush up on behavioral interview questions (like “Tell me about a time you faced a tough challenge”) and use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. Think of real-life examples where you demonstrated key skills and be ready to share how you’ve made a paws-itive impact!

What should I wear to the interview, and what if it’s virtual?

We want you to feel comfortable and confident! Business casual is usually best, but it can vary based on the role. Whether you’re in person or virtual, make sure you dress professionally, but stay relaxed and ready to be your best and authentic self. If it’s virtual, ensure you’ve got a quiet spot, stable internet, and your video/audio equipment is good to go!

When will I hear back after the interview?

We aim to give feedback within a week, but it can vary depending on the role and number of candidates. If you haven’t heard from us by then, feel free to reach out to your Recruiter for an update—sometimes, we just need a little extra time to sniff out the perfect candidate!
