Sr. Manager, Consumer Marketing

Job Responsibilities

The Sr. Manager, Consumer Marketing (Dog) will be responsible for the development and execution of targeted marketing strategies and tactics to drive improved lifetime value & loyalty among our customers, with specific focus on our dog-owning customer portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as the advocate for the dog customer and their mindset within the organization
  • Define objectives & marketing strategies for the dog customer portfolio, utilizing customer segmentation and a lifecycle management approach
  • Develop and execute targeted marketing plans, working cross-functionally with core business partners, including: writing creative briefs, tracking project progress and ensuring on-time/budget execution
  • Work cross-functionally with CRM, Creative Services, Marketing, Buying & Sourcing, Services, Finance, Store Operations, Digital and other departments in development of customer-centric marketing programs that drive financial value for PetSmart
  • Own the messaging strategy for the dog customer portfolio, leading to development of a content calendar
  • Analyze customer, research, industry and competitive data to build the most effective marketing plans
  • Develop projections for expected revenue lift & expense for campaigns
  • Partner with analytics team to evaluate success of campaigns, utilizing insights to influence future strategies
  • Present strategy and results to Senior team members across functions (Customer Experience, Buying & Sourcing, Services, etc.)
  • Manage forecast, tracking and accuracy of assigned budget line items
  • Independent self-starter who has consistently exhibited a bias for action, as opposed to excessive analysis and evaluation aimed at “perfect solutions”
  • Overall, a functional leader that delivers against business goals by leading and managing complex cross-functional projects
  • Directly supervise a team of 1 – 2 marketing associates. Responsibilities: planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; coaching and developing associates


  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or similar required
  • MBA or other advanced graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of marketing experience; past supervisory responsibility highly desired
  • Knowledge of strategic marketing and consumer behavior is a must
  • Experience in a retail environment highly desired
  • Must be comfortable in a fluid and evolving organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, highly collaborative work style
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills are a must, particularly PowerPoint and Excel
