Associate Software Engineer – Mobile (Entry-Level / New Graduate – Multiple Roles)

How this role will make an impact:

  • TheAssociate Software Engineer - Mobilewill design and develop mobile software as a member of Agile teams. The role includes mobile design, development, unit and performance testing
  • As part of the Mobile Engineering team, this person will collaborate with Product Managers, Business Partners, UX/UI Designers, Architects and other Engineers to produce high quality solutions to the many challenges our business and retail stores face
  • At every level, our IT associates are empowered to come up with innovative ideas that have strategic impacts to the business

Your goals and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and unit test Mobile Applications in support of PetSmart business
  • Analyze business requirements, provide development estimates and feedback and determine proper implementation
  • Contribute to the design, architecture, and development of existing and future mobile applications that are elegant, efficient, secure, highly available, and maintainable
  • Work with other engineering, QA, marketing and product teams to design and implement quality software solutions
  • Conduct and participate in peer reviews of team members’ code

Who you are:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in software development, especially with one or more mobile development technologies: Objective-C, Swift, Java, Kotlin, React Native
  • Knowledge of one or more mobile SDKs, different versions of Android or iOS and how to deal with different screen sizes
  • Strong understanding of MVC and object-oriented programming
  • Comfortable with mobile performance (memory, speed, networking) and experience using performance analysis tools (i.e. Instruments)
  • Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications
  • Experience with RESTful APIs
  • Knowledge of source control and build tools, such as Git and Jenkins
  • Experience with automated unit testing
  • Bright, driven and you enjoy working with the latest technologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain highly technical concepts to non-technical business partners
  • Ability to understand business requirements and the underlying complex technical dependencies
  • Self-motivated and discipline to meet deadlines with speed, accuracy and professional attitude
  • Collaborative and a team player
  • BS / BA degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education or experience

Bonus Points For:

  • Drive to learn and flex into new languages, platforms and technologies
  • Experience with GraphQL APIs
  • Experience with both iOS and Android Native application development or integrating React Native code into Native applications
  • Familiarity with Realm, SQLite, mobile payments, wearables, passbook, location aware integrations and beacon technologies
  • Experience with testing libraries such as JUnit and Espresso
  • Ability to address short-term tactical requirements without losing sight of the longer-range strategic direction
